Matthew RJ Brodsky is a Senior Fellow at the Gold Institute for International Strategy in Washington, DC, and president of Red Ax Strategies with over two decades of experience focusing on U.S. foreign policy and national security. He has briefed members of Congress, Department of State, Department of Defense, and the National Security Council on Iran, Syria, and Palestinian-Israeli issues. Brodsky assisted the Trump administration’s National Security Council and the State Department on policy and communications strategy to promote their foreign policy vision from 2017 until January 2021. He also advised the White House’s Palestinian-Israeli peace team on political aspects of the peace process, created core final status issue papers as requested, and augmented the communications rollout strategy while serving as a surrogate in the media.
Whether as a Legacy Heritage Fellow at the American Foreign Policy Council (AFPC), Director of Policy at the Jewish Policy Center (JPC) and Editor of inFOCUS Quarterly, Senior Fellow at the Security Studies Group (SSG), Political Consultant, Ghostwriter, and Campaign Manager for a candidate for U.S. Congress running against Ilhan Omar (MN-5), Brodsky has a proven track record of making an impact in the policymaking community, at think tanks, and in national and international news outlets on issues pertaining to policy and politics.
In the above capacities, Brodsky was involved in the following research projects:
- Assisted in the development and editing of the “Cultural Field Guide on Lebanon” for the U.S. Marine Corps Intelligence Activity in 2009.
- Authored the chapter on Syria for the 2011 and 2014 editions of AFPC’s “World Almanac of Islamism.”
- Co-authored with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) “Controlled Chaos: The Escalation of Conflict between Israel and Iran in War-Torn Syria.”
- Authored “Resolving the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict” and “The Financial Viability of the Assad Regime in Syria” for the SSG at the request of the NSC in 2018.
- Created a core issue document and proposal at Jared Kushner’s request for the peace team’s use in their meetings overseas and contributed additional ideas on the other core issues as requested.
While living in Israel from 2004-2008, he earned a master’s degree in Middle East History at Tel Aviv University, graduating with magna cum laude honors where he concentrated on the Levant region, the inter-Arab political system, and U.S.-led diplomatic, military, and peace efforts in the Middle East. He also worked at Israel’s largest daily newspaper, Haaretz. Brodsky is booked regularly on i24News, Newsmax, One America News Network, Al-Arabiya, Sky News Arabia, Al-Ghad, Al-Jazeera, Al-Araby, Al-Hurra, and TRT World. He also appears on Fox Business Network, Saudi 24, Kurdistan 24, Orient News, and CGTN America.
